Taking its name from northwest Ohio's once formidable Black Swamp, BSHDS is a member of the American Hosta Society and the American Hemerocallis Society.
* BSHDS currently has 90 members.
* Each January we host our annual luncheon meeting with a featured speaker.
* In May, rain or shine, is our Perennial Plant Sale (the society’s major fundraiser) held in the parking lot at Walt Churchill's Market in Perrysburg, OH.
* BSHDS holds regular meetings in the spring and fall in the Conference Center at Toledo Botanical Garden. Special speakers, programs and refreshments are featured at the general membership meetings, which are free and open to the public.
* BSHDS hosts a Daylily Workshop and Auction at Toledo Botanical Garden every August. Our members also participate in a tour of our members' gardens and an organized bus trip to gardens and nurseries that offer hostas and daylilies.
* In even-numbered years BSHDS hosts a Daylily Expo. In odd-numbered years we feature a Hosta Show called "Rivers of Leaves". Both shows are open to the public and are held in the conference center at Toledo Botanical Garden.
* Gardening workshops and special events are also held at various times during the year.
* Several of our members were involved in the early stages of development of local hosta and daylily beds at Toledo Botanical Garden, 577 Foundation, and Simpson Garden Park. Throughout the growing season our members put in endless hours and a ton of pride in those same gardens.
