Just in from Andy Marlow, President of the American Hosta Society:
"I’m sure many of you are anxious to know about the Hosta Vision 2020 American Hosta Society National Convention scheduled for June 10-13 in the Twin Cities in light of the Covid-19 pandemic. Convention chair Amy Peterson, her chief advisor Mary Schwartzbauer, Minnesota Hosta Society president Rod Hillstrom and I have met. With the situation still very fluid and the convention almost three months away, we are reluctant to make a definitive decision right now. So much could change in that time. We feel the decision should come closer to the event.
As of now, the convention is on as scheduled. A number of things could change that. An order from local, state or federal authorities, a decision by the convention hotel to limit large gatherings, or enough cancellations by registrants could all have an impact. We expect to provide a definitive answer by May 1. We should have a better handle on the situation by then, and that date should allow time for people to alter their plans, should that be necessary.
As you may remember from your registration form, there is a cancellation penalty for anyone cancelling after April 1. We are waiving that penalty to allow people to postpone their decision until the May 1 date. Should we have to cancel the convention entirely, we are committed to providing everyone a full refund of their registration.
This is a serious situation and we are approaching it as best we know how. Please keep yourselves and your families safe and healthy."
